Frostbite League 2010

Frostbite draw is now coming to an end. Please ensure that you get your matches played by Tuesday 9th march. The tournament is being ran by Sinead Byrne (tournament director), her number is up on notice board. The draw list is available (to view only) by clicking here.
 

Hardcourt Singles League 2010

The Hardcourt singles league is coming up shortly. Closing date for entries is wednesday 10th March 2010. Entry is at bar, please provide your name and grade. 1891 US OPEN WINNER FROM BALLYRAGGET.
 
While it may be a bit late going to press tennis players in Kilkenny were surprised and delighted to realize that both the 1891 and 1892 US Open Tennis Finals were won by a lady form the townland of Ballycondra, Ballyragget, Co Kilkenny. Her name was Mabel Esmonde Cahill and she actually won the singles, doubles and mixed doubles in both of those years.
In one final she beat one Ellen Roosevelt, cousin of President Franklin D Roosevelt. She
is in the Tennis Hall of Fame. She died in 1905 aged 42
 
 

Tom Kavanagh's Retirement party

After 24 years of service in the Kilkenny tennis club Tom Kavanagh is retiring. He will be sadly missed and in his honour we want to celebrate with him and wish him well in the future. His retirement party is on Saturday April 10th 2010 and will involve a great night of merriment food and music . Tickets are available through Colette O' Hare, Brian Fennelly or Stephen Lanigan (phone numbers in clubhouse).
