If you have never played tennis before, or if you can play and are new to Kilkenny, there are various ways to try out the facilities in our club.
There is an annual Open Day held in September where prospective new members can come along, see the facilities for themselves, talk to members and coaches and try out tennis with a club coach. Special membership offers are available on the Open Day.
Friday Night American Tournaments
For Seniors and Premier Grade Juniors. Cost €7
If you are new to Kilkenny or do not know many people in the club, a great way to meet other members is to take part in the American tournaments which are on most Friday nights.
To play in an American tournament you must (a) put your name and tennis grade on the American tournament notice (on the club notice board) in the club or (b) call/text Coach Brian Doyle 086 8714941 before 18.00 pm on Friday nights. The American tournament nights start at 19.30 pm sharp. You will be allocated a partner of a similar grade to play with for the evening. Play normally lasts about two hours after which there will be finger food in the bar and a small presentation of prizes. There may be no tournaments on bank holiday weekends so please check with Brian Doyle. Rain (unless torrential !) does not stop play, so be aware that the show goes on.
Prospective new members are allowed to play in the American tournaments up to three times before becoming full members.
You must be a fully paid member to avail of the facilities in Kilkenny Tennis Club. Non members must pay Green Fees each time they play. Members should ensure that relevant non-members pay green fees. Non members can play with club members up to three times if they pay green fees. Non members can also play with other non members for up to three times if both players pay green fees before going out on court.
Non-members will be allowed play in up to 3 American Tournaments for a green fee charge. After which time they must be full members to continue using club facilities.
This is an annual tournament run in May over a two week period when non-members are invited to play and try out the club and attend the annual barbeque.
