Tennis News with Ciotóg While we await the inevitable lack of progressive pace in The Hardcourt League, this week’s attention is on another successful tournament held on Saturday evening. Thanks to the welcome sponsorship provided by Lahart Garage Limited, together with Volkswagen, the tournament attracted a large entry. The tournament committee were indeed pleased with the numbers playing, which involved 3 grades. In pole position in the first grade under review were Geri Cooper and Val Nolan, who had considerable number of games to their credit. Ann Quinlan and Susan Boland made a formidable combination in 2nd place. In the penultimate grade, matters were more exciting. PJ Trait and Tina O’Connor put in an even performance in taking the prize for 2nd place. However, it was Bob O’Brien and Heather Hogan, courtesy of some impressive performances, who took the top prize in this competitive section. Meanwhile in the top grade, there was excitement in abundance with the prize distribution. Joe Kelly and Paula Nolan, by virtue of a few impressive results, edged into 2nd place – 1 game ahead of their nearest rival. However, it was the combination of Liam O’Connor and Christina Heffernan, who had the last say and the final prize, in this competitive section. The next major tournament is The Tommy Tyrrell Cup, in aid of Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care, which shall be held on Saturday 21st April. This is indeed always an enjoyable evening and the charity involved is worthy of our support. |
